Once in a great while I am up before sunrise, and I usually take advantage of the situation by heading out for some pics:

This evening we were heading out to Navarre and I made the wife-to-be pull over so that I could take this picture of the sunset:

Tall Clouds over the Beach

There have been some awesome summer clouds over Pensacola Beach the last few days. In the summer I usually walk around taking pictures with a plastic grocery bag wadded up in my pocket just in case it downpours (need to protect the camera!), but lately I’ve been forgetting it, making these walks a little nerve-wracking!

One thing is certain. Big cumulus clouds like this always make for interesting sunsets!

A Pensacola Beach Wedding

You heard it here first! I’m getting married on Pensacola Beach to my lovely girlfriend (now fiance) of 2 years, Lydia! We met in Grand Rapids, Michigan and moved down here about a year and a half ago.

We are having our September wedding right here on the island, at Our Lady of the Assumption and our reception will be held at Skopelos on the Bay, just over the bridge in Pensacola. If you haven’t been to Skopelos, I highly recommend it. Excellent food and service that can’t be beat.

I know this isn’t really Pensacola Beach related, but I felt that I just had to break the news!

Pink Pony Pub in Gulf Shores, AL

Only about 30 minutes away from Pensacola Beach, Gulf Shores is a fun change of scenery. After some shopping at the huge outlet mall in Foley, Alabama, we headed 10 miles south to Gulf Shores. Upon a recommendation we hit up the Pink Pony Pub on the beach for dinner and some drinks:

They have a back deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. We took the waitperson’s recommendation and ordered up some Nachos, one of their specialties. Very good, and VERY large. Come hungry!

The beaches here are similar to Pensacola Beach: wide, flat, and powdery-white sand:

Great Blue Heron

A few nights ago, before Tropical Storm Fay moved in, i captured this huge bird in my backyard during sunset. This picture is a little blurry. I really need a tripod:

After getting too close he moved up here:

A few minutes later, the heron was gone, and I was left alone with a beautiful Pensacola Beach sunset:

Sunset over Bob Sikes Bridge

Bob Sikes Bridge, otherwise known as the Pensacola Beach Bridge, is the only way on or off the island by car right now. The toll is one dollar far a car, but you only have to pay when coming on to the island.

This picture was taken from a dock in the Santa Rosa Sound.
