Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras Parade 2009

The Mardi Gras Parade on Pensacola Beach was just one of many parades in the area over the last few weeks, but in my opinion, the beach parade is the best one! Yesterday, the sun came out just before the parade, which made for much better pictures!

These kids were waiting patiently next to me for almost an hour!

Here’s the first music of the day! McGuire’s Bagpipe Band!

And here come the beads!

The Krewe of Moonlight Madness with their Wizard of Oz themed float:

The lovely ladies of Mardi Gras:

Look at all of those beads. I was trying to find more information about this float. Does anyone know which Krewe or group this was?

The “Hip Huggers”

These ladies were sure having a good time tossing beads:

The crowds were loving it:

Here’s the Krewe of Lower Alabama, and apparently Super Mario is their mascot!

Here’s the Krewe of de Feet:

Lots of pink going on here:

“Irish” I would have been on this bus:

The Krewe of Warriors Stray Cats:

Elvis lives!

Krewe of Seville – I like the lamp posts!

Check out this festive bike!

Krewe Karrus Navalis:

I think their arms were getting tired. Good thing we’re nearing the end of the road!

These pirates were one of the last floats in the parade this year:

I’m just glad I live on the island and, once again, didn’t have to deal with the traffic leaving the island after the parade. Check out the line of cars! Repeat visitors know not to plan on being off the island for a few hours after an event like this. I’m already looking forward to next year’s Parade!

Early Riser

I got up early today, so I ran out to get a few shots of the sunrise. It looks like another Red Flag day on Pensacola Beach! Enjoy your day!

Swimming In February?

Today sure was a great day for February!

A perfect day for a walk on the beach…

…or a bike ride down Via De Luna…

…But swimming? Today? Yes indeed:

A Glimpse of Sunshine

I was up early on Thursday morning of this week and captured the sun peeking through the clouds. The lighting was surreal, so I ran back to the house to grab my camera. Made it back just in time before the clouds covered up the sun for the rest of the morning.

Sometimes you’ve just gotta be in the right place at the right time. Turning west, I could see nothing but overcast skies approaching:

A Pensacola Beach Wedding

You heard it here first! I’m getting married on Pensacola Beach to my lovely girlfriend (now fiance) of 2 years, Lydia! We met in Grand Rapids, Michigan and moved down here about a year and a half ago.

We are having our September wedding right here on the island, at Our Lady of the Assumption and our reception will be held at Skopelos on the Bay, just over the bridge in Pensacola. If you haven’t been to Skopelos, I highly recommend it. Excellent food and service that can’t be beat.

I know this isn’t really Pensacola Beach related, but I felt that I just had to break the news!

Pensacola Bay

I was doing the scenic walk just off of Scenic Highway this morning and got some good shots of Pensacola Bay, and the train tracks. In the distance, you can see the Garcon Point Bridge.

This is looking north along the tracks. I think I was actually breaking a law by being down there, but hey whatever gets the good pictures, right?

Another Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Beautiful day today for January. I’m pretty sure it was in the 60s this afternoon. There were plenty of folks out enjoying the beach today when I got home. Click to enlarge the picture!

A Beautiful Saturday on the Beach

Just another beautiful weekend on the beach. A little chilly, but no jacket needed today. Check out how clear the water is today:

These pelicans were putting on their own airshow over Pensacola Beach today, just like our Blue Angles!
